Margaret is a very military person. She was born in an army hospital and raised in the army. At the age of 5 she had a crying fit because her parents wouldn't let her get a crew cut. She has a younger sister, who is a captain and as mentioned in the episode "Bulletin Board" was to be married. Her father died, but was risen from the grave and came to visit her at the 4077th. Her mother and father are seperated/divorced. Margaret told Frank that her mother drinks, but when she is sober she is a clepto, so half her pay would go to sobering her up and the other half for bail. Margaret spent her early years in Fort Ord California, but her family did move around alot because of the army.

In the begining she was having an affair with Frank, they tried to keep it secret, but did a terrible job of it. Everyone knew. Margaret ditched Frank after she met Lieutenant Colonel Donald Penobscott in Tokyo while at a medical confrence. The engagement went on for quite some time, until she had enough and out right told Donald to set a date. Donald came down to the 4077th, Klinger lent Margaret the wedding dress his Uncle Gus used to get out of world war II and Father Mulcahy married them. However the marriage did not last, after Donald requested to be transfered to the states instead of sticking around to work things out, Margaret declared it over!

We see a bit of an attraction between Hawkeye and Margaret, though it would seem they can't stand each other, it does not appear to be the case. Of course some would beg to differ that the attraction lies between Margaret and Charles. Really its a case of each to their own.

Margaret did a lot of growing at the 4077th. She married and divorced, and learnt to open up to those around her. She is a very sensitive woman on the inside and yet she shows no emotion on the outside until she hits braking point. She grew close to Colonel Potter as he was like a father to her and even though she may not show it all of the time, had a motherly instinct towards Radar.
