Radar came into the army at the age of 18 from a farm in Ottumwah Iowa. His father died when he was young. We are left with the impression that Radars father was no longer a spring chicken (meaning he was old - 63 to be exact). During a game of peekaboo, he suffered from a stroke!
Radar mentions a sister who borrows his bike and always makes the chain fall off, many other relatives, his mum and Uncle Ed. He also mentions a brother an Older brother.
He likes drinking Grape Nehis, and although the food in the mess tent tasts like crap, he always has a full tray.
Radar sleeps with a teddy bear, that was given to him by his brother who died as a child.
He has the ability to know whats going to happen before it actually does. eg: He can hear the choppers before they are annouced and is always finishing peoples sentences.
Radar is very resourceful and did an excellent job as company clerk at the 4077th.
He had 4 girlfriends that we know of. His first sent him a "Dear John" recording while he was in Korea. The second in "Springtime". Third in the episode best known as "AHH Bach" and forth on his way back from R&R episode "Goodbye Radar Part 1" named Patty. We don't know what becomes of them both, they agree to visit each other after the war, as Patty is on her way back to the states. She lives only acouple of hours from his home town.
He did alot of growing up at the 4077th, as did alot of the other characters. In "Fallen Idol" he and Hawkeye have a blow out, we see alot of changing and maturing there.
He looked up to Henry as a father figure, and then later Col. Potter filled the void. However we notice that he never really became as close to Potter as he did Henry.
Radar got to go home to help run his mothers farm after his Uncle Ed passed away.
